TUNING YOUR PIANO

The first time, I will ask you about your piano when we schedule my visit. I need to know what kind of piano you have (brand name, model, and approximate age), and how long since it was last tuned, approximately. This allows me to schedule the amount of time I anticipate will be needed.

If it has been several years since it was last tuned, a "pitch raise" may be needed, usually involving tuning your piano once to bring it up to pitch, and once to fine tune. You can avoid the extra cost of a pitch raise by tuning your piano regularly, and protecting it from extremes in heat and humidity (easier for us on our side of the Cascades where heat and humidity seasonal changes are much less than most other places in the United States).

Two Requests:

  • Please remove everything from the top of your piano, as I will need to open it up to work on it.

  • The quieter the room, the faster and more accurately I can work. Silence isn't a requirement, but loud talking, washing machines nearby, etc., need to be minimized.

If you need to change our previously scheduled appointment, please call me at 425-765-3514 so that I can book someone else in your time spot.

In the unlikely situation that you are not there when I arrive, I will attempt to contact you, but there is a charge for missed appointments.

Children and Pets:

I enjoy interacting with children (and adults too) who are interested in the inside of the piano and what I'm doing there.  Kids are fine to be around when I'm tuning as long as they don't try to sing along with the tuning.

As for pets, I enjoy them greatly.  I trust you will know if your pet isn't good with guests, but the vast majority make my visit more interesting.  Here's a photo a friend sent me of her piano technician getting some extra help.
